Some general notes about people |
| Robert John Lewis & Hannah Tudor Hannah was not married to
Robert John Lewis - no marriage can be found Also in grave: Hannah died on the 29th January 1933 at Lake Hospital, Ashton under
Lyne. Death: a) Myocarditis and b) Chronic Bronchitis. Hannah and Richard Evans were still living at 137 Wellington Street at the time of her death. 1891 census at Gwersyllt Edward & Hannah (Spelt Anna) Tudor (spelt Tuder) use Tuder for that census year search, probably parents of Hannah but she was on this census as Anna aged 5, but she is with the same parents on the 1901 census at Llay Hall Collery Houses aged 15., as Hannah, born Gwersyllt. Annie May Henderson She was born in Wallasey and later moved to Ashton under Lyne and worked in several of the local Cotton Mills. She was recorded as a Setter On on her marriage certificat , living on John Street, Ashton, and below is a description of a Setter On "....large tins coiled like rope. They were then taken to a frame called a Slubber. Two of these tins of cotton went through this frame and made into one large bobbin, again still very thick. Thee bobbins were then taken to the flies or 'intermediates' Called this by the 'posh' then onto the jacks then these smaller bobbins were taken up stairs to the spinners. I've forgotten how many floors of spinners there was. Worked in the cabin a few weeks and again was moved up to be a 'setter on'. This job was to help a tenter, (Woman on a pair of flies), fetching empty bobbins and taking away full ones to the jacks, making her tea, doing her errands (chippy) at dinner time, and helping her to clean the frames, for this werepaid about 6d a week." Married John Alcock at Ashton, Ryecroft Independent Chapel (Stockport Road) and they had 7 children, later she left him for John Lewis and had an only daughter Beryl, whilst they were living at 161 Turner Lane, now redeveloped. Some time after the death of John Lewis, John Alcock divorced her and she later married Percy Williams in 1969 at Hyde Register Office.. Following the death of Percy, she re-married John Alcock and later they went to live at Thornbank Residential Home in January 1994 in Hyde. She suffered a stroke in 1996 which left her without the use of her right hand side which caused her to lose the power of speech and was unable to walk or use her right hand. John Alcock died in 1997 and later Annie was moved to Firbank House Nursing Home in Ashton under Lyne, a great improvement over Thornbank. She was taken ill suddenly on Thursday 3rd February 2000, transferred to Tameside General Hospital that evening and died the following day. She was buried at Hurst Cemetery, Ashton under Lyne on Friday 11th February 2000 in the grave already containing the coffins of Brian and John Alcock.
